The Moderne

Servings: 1

While it is a nod to the venerable old-fashioned, there’s certainly nothing quaint about this big-flavored drink. Elderflower and bitters make this something special. When sourcing bitters, look for local small-batch brews. They make all the difference.

  • 2 oz. bourbon
  • 1 oz. elderflower liqueur
  • 3 dashes bitters
  • 1 3-inch piece orange peel

Stir the bourbon, liqueur, and bitters together in a mixing glass. Squeeze the orange peel into the glass to release some of its oils, and then stir the peel into the liquid. Pour over ice cubes into a lowball glass and serve.
